Indrek Sirp
Director of the National Security and Defense Coordination of the Government Office, Estonia

Indrek Sirp is Director of Security and National Defense at the Estonian Government Office since July 2017. 

His primary career has been with the Estonian Ministry of Defense (MOD). From 2001 to 2008, he served in different posts in the International Cooperation Department, a unit responsible for bilateral and regional defense cooperation. From 2010 to 2013, Mr. Sirp worked as Director of the International Cooperation Department of MOD. He was in charge of policy formulation for and implementation of bilateral and regional defense cooperation with allied and partner nations of Estonia. In this capacity, he was also the Estonian representative to the NATO Collective Cyber Defense Center of Excellence Steering Committee in 2012–2013. 

In 2013-2014 Mr. Sirp worked as Project Manager for Rail Baltic at the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications overseeing a multi-billion-euro railway project connecting the Baltic countries with Central and Western Europe.

As his latest assignment with MOD Mr. Sirp served in 2014-2017 as Defense Counselor and Representative of MOD at the Embassy of Estonia in Washington, DC. There he liaised with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, State Department, National Security Council Staff and Congress in strengthening Estonian-US defense cooperation.

Mr. Sirp’s responsibilities in his current position include interagency coordination of comprehensive national defense planning, national contingency planning, intelligence coordination and management of government situation center. He is also Secretary of the Government Security Committee.

Indrek Sirp holds a B.A. in History from the University of Tartu, Estonia, and an M.A. in International History from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. He is married with two children.
