Róbert Ondrejcsák
Deputy Minister of Defense, Slovakia

His professional career has begun in 2001 in the non-governmental sector. From April 2002 he served at the Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic as an Analyst at the NATO Department. In 2003, he served as an Adviser to the Vice-Chairman for Foreign and Security Policy at the National Council of Slovak Republic. 

In years 2004-2005, he returned to the Ministry of Defense where he reformed and led the expert think-tank of the Ministry, Institute of Security and Defense Studies. 

In 2005-2007, he served as a Deputy Head of Mission at the Slovak Embassy in Hungary where he was i. a. responsible for foreign and security policy, regional cooperation and integration. 

After his return from the diplomatic service, he became the Director of the Center for European and North Atlantic Affairs (2007-2010 and later 2012-2016). During this era, the Center was one of the main think-tanks dealing with the security policy in Central Europe, with an extensive network of partnerships and projects in four continents.

In 2010-2012, he served the first term as a State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic, without political affiliation. He had been responsible for issues of security policy, NATO, EU and international relations. From this position, he initiated and led a historical first Strategic Defense Review, as well as preparation of the White Book on Defense of the Slovak Republic.

In 2016, he founded a non-governmental organization STRATPOL which focuses on topics of security, defense, and international relations. 

In September 2016, he assumed the position of State Secretary of Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic for the second time and he has been serving in this position until today. In this period, he led a team that prepared new Defense Strategy of the Slovak Republic, expertly mentored accession to the EU´s Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO), and he was a strong proponent of participation of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic to NATO´s in Enhanced Forward Presence in Baltics. 

He is the author and editor of numerous scientific books and other publications in the field of security and defense policy and international relations, published in Slovakia and abroad.
